Walk, Bike, and Roll To School

Project type

Community Event

Date

Annually in October

Location

Hanna Rd from Schroeder Park to Hanna Woods Elementary School

I’m proud to have planned and collaborated with community volunteers and multiple government agencies to host three annual Walk, Bike, and Roll to School events—an initiative focused on safety, health, and connection. In coordination with Hanna Woods Elementary administration and physical education staff, City Hall, Public Works, the Parks Department, city officials, the Manchester Police Department, West County Safety House, high school volunteers, and dedicated community members, we worked together to plan and execute events that were both safe and fun for participating families.

Events like this are possible only in a city as well-managed as Manchester. Strong coordination between departments, clear communication, and a shared commitment to public safety make it possible to host successful community initiatives at this scale. While there are still areas where pedestrian access and connectivity can be improved, Manchester continues to evaluate, invest, and strive toward safer, more accessible routes for residents of all ages.

Our most recent event tripled attendance, encouraging more children to walk, bike, and roll to school while reinforcing the importance of regular physical activity and pedestrian safety. I’m incredibly proud of the teamwork behind this effort and look forward to many more years of hosting and growing this unique community event—putting People First and moving Manchester Forward.
